Interdisciplinary Approaches to Cancer Metastasis Workshop

As a mentor for the IACM workshop, Julio Aguirre-Ghiso introduces his views on pressing problems in cancer metastasis.

To facilitate interdisciplinary collaborative projects across the CSBC and PS-ON programs and beyond, Sage Bionetworks hosted a two-day workshop in Seattle, WA on June 12-14. Early career investigators from diverse NCI-related programs including the Innovative Molecular Analysis Technologies (IMAT) program, the Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (ITCR) program, the Cancer Systems Biology Consortium (CSBC) and the Physical Sciences-Oncology Network (PS-ON) were invited to submit applications and 25 highly qualified researchers were invited.

These investigators, with the guidance of three mentors, formed seven teams to submit pilot project proposals to be reviewed by the organizing committee and mentors. At the end of the two days, 3 teams, representing 10 institutions, were selected to receive pilot project funds and are now carrying out the proposed research.
